Actual Play Kickoff: Roll20 East Texas University

Technically, this kickoff is a bit late, as my students are approaching the end of their Freshman year, but, hey, I’ve been away from blogging for a while, so time to play catch-up.

I’ve been running 5th Edition Dungeons & Dragons games on Roll20 for some time with more-or-less the same group, but I wanted to get them over to Savage Worlds, and I figured East Texas University would be a good transition for them. If you’re not familiar with the setting, ETU is a college horror game. Depending on the players and the GM, it can range from Scooby Doo to Cthulhu, but my group has landed on late-season Buffy the Vampire Slayer – serious, but not TOO serious. The Degrees of Horror Plot Point campaign takes the students from Freshmen to Senior, gradually ramping up the difficulty of the challenges – whether those be exams or interdimensional horrors.

My group currently consists of six characters. They are:

C.P. West: Drama nifty, English major, writer of the next Great American Novel. Every new experience and person  is grist for the mill, every new person a potential character in the next flash fiction, short story, play, or novel.  Open to the occult.

Marco Martinez: An inner city kid attending on a baseball scholarship. From Chicago, he has good fighting from the street/baseball bat and is streetwise.  He’s a history major.

Mariana Beck: Spoiled East Coast rich girl, rebelling by attending school in the sticks. Undeclared major. Packs a Glock in her purse and is a bit too quick to use it.

Matt Damiano: Italian exchange student with a mysterious past. Curious about and blogs on the occult, fell in with the group via a buddy in the computer science lab and a weird experience in English Lit.

Ryo Akiyama: Japanese exchange student and martial artist. Comes from a long line of samurai, majoring in criminal justice. Has a wolf spirit companion who warns him of otherworldly dangers.

Troy Bergsma: Country boy turned comp-sci goth. Psychically sensitive and endlessly curious; multi-talented from his backwoods upbringing, and amateur locksmith.

Stay tuned for actual play posts from ETU – Go Ravens!
